(Irving, Texas, March 4, 2002) - Shannon M., Incorporated of Phoenix, Arizona,
which owns and operates numerous McDonald's locations in the Phoenix area,
recently announced an agreement with Brink's, Incorporated for CompuSafeŽ
Service, an electronic cash handling service created to provide greater
convenience and security for cash-intensive retail operations. Under this
agreement, Brink's will provide CompuSafe Service to all of Shannon M.'s
McDonald's locations.
Brink's CompuSafe Service provides improved security and accuracy for cash
transactions from the time a customer pays to the time the money is deposited in
the bank and completely eliminates the manual counting and re-counting of cash
on site at restaurants.
"The number one reason we use CompuSafe Service is focus. Our focus is running a
restaurant, not counting cash," said Shane Thompson, partner and vice president
of Shannon M., Incorporated. "When our people are focused on counting cash,
they're looking down. When they're focused on the customer, they are looking up.
It's as simple as that."
"CompuSafe Service also saves time - about 50 minutes a day - and that's huge,"
said Thompson. "Prior to implementing CompuSafe Service, preparing a deposit
took about an hour, not even including the time to take the deposit to the bank.
It now takes 10 minutes total. Our managers use that extra time to be on the
floor, to get involved, get to know the customers, as well as for training,
cleanliness, grill procedures, and McDonald's initiatives."
"The biggest thing is that our managers are happy now. They don't have to count,
re-count and strap cash," said Thompson.
When employees of Shannon M.'s McDonald's locations insert currency into the
CompuSafe unit, it reads and validates the bills, placing them in secure
cassettes. Brink's collects the sealed containers and transports them to a
Brink's currency room where trained tellers verify the deposits. Brink's then
makes the deposit into Shannon M.'s bank and provides deposit detail to its
office.
"Shannon M. is on the leading edge of a trend that is changing the way
restaurants handle cash," said Glenn Mason, vice president of Brink's CompuSafe
Service. "CompuSafe Service helps them focus on customers, not counting cash."
Brink's CompuSafe Service is a solution that offers Brink's quality service
every step of the way, from the safes and armored transportation to the on-site
maintenance and nationwide electronic reporting. Perhaps most important, because
Brink's controls the entire process, the potential for theft and discrepancies
is minimized and Brink's can guarantee its clients that the amount of cash
reported in the cassettes when picked up will be deposited to their bank
account.
Brink's, Incorporated, founded in 1859, is the largest provider of armored
services in the world with over 150 facilities in the United States and a global
network that spans over 50 countries.
